In addition to preparing for the final matches of Euro 2012, the reconstruction of the Kharkiv Arena immediately included the idea of creating a modern, multifunctional sports and entertainment complex. In addition to holding sports and mass events, promoting physical culture and sports, and improving training conditions for athletes, the emphasis was placed on the social component.
One of the sub-projects of the reconstruction is the creation of a children's football academy of FC Metalist, located near the stadium. It will include 8 football pitches with modern artificial turf and a building for the maintenance and accommodation of 60 children.
It should be noted that the Metalist Stadium is the only one of the 4 stadiums in Ukraine, which will host Euro 2012, to be designed and built exclusively by Ukrainian design and construction teams.
The team of authors of the stadium reconstruction project was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in Architecture for 2011, and the chief architect of the project was awarded the title of Honoured Architect of Ukraine.
